| As many of you already know, we have worked
vigorously to create a unique exhibit, paying homage to
veterans and their families who lived through WWII. What
started as a personal hobby very quickly grew into the utmost
respect for these people who indeed deserve the name "The
Greatest Generation".
Our exhibit is
meant to serve as a place where the visitor can see and feel
virtually how it was in those days. In combination with my work and
dioramas (3D paintings), we want to create an environment where
everyone, but especially a younger public, can be re-educated about
that time in history where a whole generation was engulfed in the
turmoil of despair and ordeal, but also in togetherness and victory,
on the battlefield as well as on the home front.
We invested a lot
of time and effort in renovating the old Sanders Sawmill Office,
where a service station and restaurant used to be. The
downstairs is used as exhibit space for the display of several fully
dressed figures from all branches of the Military, US and Allied
and personal artifacts, a wall of honor with 200+ photos
of soldiers who have some relationship with Preston County and a
room is dedicated to the Women of Worl War II. The WAACS, WAVES,
WASPS, Nurses, Red Cross, and volunteers.
If you or members
of your family have uniforms, artifacts, documents or
photos from that era that might contribute to the museum we would be
honored to incorporate them in the exhibit.
We also offer the opportunity to become a lifetime
member of "The Greatest Generation Society". The life time
membership donation is $250 and it will help to make this
exhibit even more unique. These funds will be applied
toward admission discounts for schools, to acquire more artifacts,
or to print flyers. Your membership includes free admission, name
recognition on the wall, membership card and polo shirt with "The
Greatest Generation Society" logo.
